Meet Dr. Ivet Romero – Your Orthodontist in Cutler Bay

Dr. Ivet Romero is the heart of Southland Orthodontics. With years of experience in advanced orthodontic care, she is dedicated to helping patients of all ages achieve beautiful, healthy smiles throughout Cutler Bay, Homestead, and Palmetto Bay.
Dr. Romero was born and raised in Cuba where she completed her four out of 5 years program to become a dentist at University of Havana. She migrated to the United States in 2008 and rapidly overcame the challenges to pursuit her dream of becoming a dentist in this country. She attended Florida International University where she obtained her bachelor degree in Biology, graduating with honors.
She worked as an orthodontic dental assistant while she was finishing her requirements. She attended University of Florida College of Dental Medicine where she graduated Magna Cum Laude, being the only Hispanic woman among the four top students of her class. Dr. Romero worked as a General Dentist in Miami for three years and then moved to NYC for her Orthodontic training. She is been Board Certified by the American Board of Orthodontics (ABO).
For Dr. Romero, being an orthodontist is not only a professional dream that came true but also a genuine source of personal satisfaction. She loves her patients and the long-term relationship that she establishes with them during treatment. For Dr. Romero “Ortho is fun, challenging and rewarding…all at the same time. It’s truly a privilege being able to give others the gift of a beautiful smile” Dr. Romero is a lucky wife and the mother of two lovely boys. She loves to spend time with her family and friends. She enjoys photography, music, dancing, and “cafecito” after lunch.

What inspired you to become an orthodontist?
“I’ve always loved both science and art, and orthodontics is the perfect blend of both. Helping patients gain confidence through their smiles is incredibly rewarding. Seeing a patient’s face light up at the end of treatment never gets old!”
What’s your approach to patient care?
“I believe in treating each patient like family. That means listening carefully, explaining treatment options clearly, and making sure they feel comfortable and supported from day one.”
What do you enjoy most about working with kids and teens?
“I love building relationships with young patients and watching them grow into confident young adults. I try to make every visit fun and educational—it’s about more than braces; it’s about building trust and self-esteem.”
What do you like to do outside the office?
“I enjoy spending time with my family, trying new foods, and giving back to the community through dental outreach programs. Health education is a big passion of mine.”
